Scouts boys and girls aged 10.5 - 14 years

The Scout Troop is the third section in the Scout Group, above Beavers and Cubs. The Scout Section is for young people aged between 10½ and 14 years.  There is core flexibility in the age range:  young people can join from age 10 and can move to Explorers between age 13½ and 14½.

Scouts aims to build and develop young people’s confidence, sense of adventure and outdoor skills, as well as encouraging them to explore their beliefs and attitudes and be creative.  It offers them the independence to put these skills into practice at camps and even on international trips.

Scouts are encouraged to work together and take the lead on all sorts of projects, from community-based work to planning games and activities for their meetings.

Biggar Scouts meet in Coulter.

Symington Scouts meet in Symington on Mondays.

Biggar Scouts

Currently have four adults who make up the leadership team. Lisa Edwards is the Section Leader with Micah Barrett, Adam Whately and Neil Tolson as Assistant Leaders.

We also have two Young Leaders who are in the Explorer Unit associated with the group.

Our Scout Troop is divided 5 Patrols, each headed up by an older Scout called a Patrol Leader, and an Assistant Patrol Leader. These older Scouts help to welcome and encourage new Scouts whilst passing on the skills they have already learnt through Scouting.

Our activities are wide and varied, recent examples include canoeing, climbing, swimming, bushcarft and Archery. You will generally find outside from Spring to Autumn, with inside activities over the winter months such as cooking, model making and nerf wars!

We try and run at least three camps per year with one of them being a Summer camp. Previous Summer camps have included international Camps in Holland and England with over 5000 participants from all over the world.

Our activities and camps help to ensure the Scouts meet the requirements for the many variety of badges which are available for the Scouts to achieve whilst they are with the troop. We are staged badges for them to progress through such as Nights Away, Hiking and Snow Sports. Activity Badges such as Fire Safety, Athletics and Astronomy. Finally, we have 9 challenge badges which if all are gained gives the Scouts the converted Gold Chief Scout Award.

We look forward to welcoming you to our Scout Troop for lots of fun and adventure !
